Tokyo Meets London

東京の冬の天気は最高！

ピリッと冷たい空気はあるけれど、空は雲一つなく真っ青。

最低気温はロンドンと同じくらいなのに、太陽が出るとこうも暖かく感じるのね。

クリスマスはヨーロッパの方が盛り上がるけれど、お正月はやっぱり日本。

お正月の家族の集まりが恋しくて、結局子どもが冬休みに入ったらすぐに日本に帰ってきてしまう。

I love spending winter in Tokyo. The air is crisp and cold, but the sky is always clear, deep blue. Even though the lowest temperatures are similar to those in London, the sunshine makes a big difference and it feels much warmer during the day.

Christmas is more lively in Europe, but New Year is truly special in Japan. While Japanese people do celebrate Christmas, it mostly a commercial event and more for couples than for families, as most of us are not Christian. The New Year, however, is considered an important turning point in Japanese culture-a time to reset and start anew. My family gathers every year to celebrate, so as soon as my children start their winter break, we return to Japan.

店内が明るくて、好きなレストランに行ってきました。

いつ行ってもスタッフの方の接客も気持ちいい。

日本の接客が世界で高く評価されているけど、私は時々柔軟じゃないなぁと

思うことがあります。例えば、ディナーメニューにはフレンチフライがあるのに、

ランチにはなく、子どもが食べたがっているから作れるかお願いしても、ディナー時

でないから出せないといわれたり。

ロンドンは、フレンドリーでフレキシブルな印象。もちろん、お店によるけれど。

ここは、女子会におすすめ！

I love this place called Gold in Notting Hill. It’s bright inside and the staff are always friendly.

People says Japanese hospitality is excellent, but I sometimes think it feels a bit mechanical.

Whereas in London, I find it flexible and friendly. Of course, it really depends on where you go.

Anyway, I highly recommend this restaurant for a girls’ gathering.
